Nel mese di giugno del 1984 fu pubblicato su etichetta New Rose Record il box set della band garage punk voodoobilly dei CRAMPS dal titolo Smell Of Female e contenente un’edizione limitata di 4 vinili colorati in formato 7″ con 7 tracks che la band aveva suonato durante lo Spring Tour, tutte registrate live al Peppermint Lounge (popolare discoteca di Manhattan) tra il 25 e il 26 febbraio 1983.
Ogni 7″ ha una propria differente copertina, e tutti sono compresi in un box anch’esso con un’altra copertina differente.
Nel 1983, il mini LP Smell Of Female fu rilasciato su etichetta Big Beat e svettò nelle classifiche indipendenti.
Il mini album Smell Of Female fu poi pubblicato a novembre dello stesso anno per la I. R. S. Records:

Ironia della sorte, esso è forse il documento più rappresentativo del sound dei CRAMPS.
A tal proposito, Poison Ivy ha affermato: “Those early IRS records sound so different than how we perceived ourselves because we were always this brutal, hard, violent, rocking, loud thing on-stage. Those albums are atmospheric but they also sound like there’s a lid on them. The Cramps were always way more in your face than that.”
